Professional Educator Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $500 each
Available To: Professional Educators
Deadline to Apply: July 15th/December 15th
Winners Announced online: Aug. 1st/Jan. 1st
The Professional Educator Scholarship is a scholarship designed to provide tuition assistance to professional educators. The Professional Educator Scholarship is not a scholarship for student teachers, but is primarily aimed at those teachers who are taking graduate coursework or seeking alternative certification from an accredited university or alternative certification program.

J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $500 each
Available To: A+PEL Members Teaching in the Social Sciences
Deadline to Apply: May 15th
Winners Announced online: June 1st
The J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship, given in honor of former Louisiana Governor Jared Young Sanders, is aimed at empowering experienced social studies teachers. As such, the J.Y. Sanders Social Studies Scholarship can be applied to additional coursework and/or instructional materials for the recipient. Attendance at the annual JY Sanders Conference is required.

Associate Member Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to assist A+PEL associate members in achieving certification as professional educators through university coursework or alternative certification programs.

Deborah Nelson/Polly Broussard – Student Teacher Scholarships
Award Amount: Up to $500 each
Available To: Student Teachers
Deadlines to Apply: March 15 for Spring / October 15 for Fall
Winners Announced online: Apr. 1st/Nov. 1st
These scholarships are given in honor of Polly Broussard and the late Deborah Nelson for their years of service and dedication to both the students of Louisiana and A+PEL. Polly Broussard was one of the original founders of A+PEL and also served as A+PEL’s Executive Director. Presently, Polly Broussard continues her service to A+PEL as Director of Legal Services. Deborah Nelson served for many years as a teacher and principal, before serving A+PEL as its first Director of University Programs.

Grants
Professional Development Grant
Award Amount: Up to $500 each
Available To: Professional Educators
Deadlines to Apply:
February 15, June 15, and October 15
Winners Announced online: Mar. 1st, July 1st , Nov 1st
A+PEL supports all avenues of professional development for teachers. A+PEL will assist in the costs associated with a teacher attending an external professional development seminar or conference. Conferences can be either state or national conferences such as AERA or LACUE.

National Board Certification Grant
Award Amount: Up to $750 each
Available To: Professional Educators
Deadline to Apply: September 15th
Winners Announced online: Oct. 1st
A+PEL supports teachers through the National Board Certification process through the partial payment of course fees. National Boards represent an intensive professional development experience and a significant recognition of a teacher as a successful professional.

This grant is aimed at deferring the costs of instructional resources and classroom supplies for teachers. A+PEL realizes that an increasing number of classroom expenses, which were once covered by school, district, or state funds, are being personally paid for by teachers.

School Volunteer Awards
The annual A+PEL School Volunteer Awards Program is designed to recognize the many valuable contributions made by Louisiana school volunteers. Additionally, the program is intended to increase awareness of the importance of parental and citizen involvement in Louisiana’s public education.
Available To: Volunteers meeting selection criteria listed below
Nominations are accepted Jan 1 - April 1
To nominate a school volunteer:

Select one volunteer who has shown above average commitment to education.

Complete the School Volunteer Nomination Form online.

Submit a picture of the nominee to A+PEL at 7907 Wrenwood Blvd., Suite B, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.

Have the nominee complete the "Tell Us About You” form online.
Nominee selection is based on 3 criteria:

Time, energy or resources in school service
-
Services rendered at school, parish and state level
-
Leadership
A reception honoring the school volunteers will take place in June at the Governor’s Mansion. Invitations will be sent to the volunteer award recipients, principals, superintendents, nominating teachers, legislators, and BESE members.

Fund for Teachers Fellowship
Fund for Teachers supports
educators' efforts to develop skills, knowledge and confidence that impact
student achievement. By trusting teachers to design unique fellowships, Fund
for Teachers grants validate teachers' professionalism and leadership, as
well. Since 2001, Fund for Teachers has invested $20 million in more
than 5,500 teachers, transforming grants into growth for teachers and their
students. Grants are offered at up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000
for teams.
